At Contemporarynotion, we are happy to answer any enquiries regarding studying and living in Adelaide (South Australia). Feel free to email us with your questions and we will get back to you ASAP. Below are some lovely pictures of Adelaide and fun Aussie phrases that are worth checking out!

[Rundle Mall: Heart of Adelaide Shopping]

THE AUSSIE SLANG

Just like our Singlish, the Aussie Slang may prove tricky for most people new to Australia due to the already-different-kinda english and the way they speak. The phrases often offer cheery greetings and a great way to say goodbye to someone, just like these:

[GREETINGS]

- How's it goin?

- Hi mate!

- How's your day?

- G'day!

- How's everythin?

- Good Mornin'!

Note the words without the ending 'g' letter. That's exactly how they speak.

[SAYING YOUR GOODBYES]

- See ya!

- No worries, mate.

- Hope you enjoy the rest of your day!

- Have a great weekend!

The best thing about Australians is how warm and friendly they get. You get enthusiastic and cheerful salespeople greeting you at the door step of their shops with any of the above greeting phrases. Even when you do not buy anything, they would still say goodbye to you in the most sincerest way (with a huge smile) that would actually make you feel guilty for not spending any cash. Sales personnel offer great fashion tips and even make light conversations with you if you can afford the time. Amazing thing is, you can even chat up the stranger sitting next to you on the bus / supermarket cashiers / cafe waiters / bus drivers / toilet cleaners without anybody thinking that you are crazy. It is simply their way of life to share and smile. :)
